There is no doubt in my mind that India...Dear Ram:

There is no doubt in my mind that Indians are the first to propose Evolutionary theory. Typical for those ages that all theories were represented as myths. Scientific reasoning as seen now was established much later, probably after middle ages. So it is important for the Indians to interpret Indian myths in the light of modern science. I have been doing this and I was fascinated by it as you are. But this interpretation of mine is not new. I remember reading an article by an Indian on Evolutionary theory as seen by Hindus in a Biological conference in New York, way back in 60s.

Vaali and Sugrevan represent, probably, the 'missing links' between Humans and Great Apes. Jane Goodall's study clearly shows that our closest relative Chimps are very much Human.

Race is another peculiar phenomenon. Scientifically there is no base for 'Dravian Race'. In fact biologist Romer would say that there is no pure race on earth. All races are genetically mixed. So are Indians. Aryan-Dravian races are simply 'myths' with vested interest. There may be 'political' reason behind it but there is no 'biological' basis for that.

Ironically, the 'suppose to be' Aryan King Rama is black and the Rakshsasa king Ravanan, who is suppose to be 'dravidian' is a Brahmin. So I believe, the entire Ramayana is a metaphor and can not be interpreted historically. (however, there are amazing scientific facts hidden in Ramayana, yet to be explored).Dr.N.Kannanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14818436093975846251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11685832.post-12056950864554278292007-01-08T06:21:00.000+05:302007-01-08T06:21:00.000+05:30This stuff is just amazing!
I always thought tha...This stuff is just amazing!

I always thought that the scientific or evolutionary reasons behind our Dashavatar 'stories' .. I was able to relate Noah's arc with Matsya Avatar and have been looking for analytical reasonings behind rest of the Avatars. Seems like you've got a very good handle on those analytical reasonings - pl enlighten us more.

If you have good findings, can you pl also share the evolutionary aspects of (a) Vaali, Sugreevan and rest of the Vaanaraas portrayed in Ramayana to be living in the mid-Indian region(b)Raavanaa and Ashuraas and their impact on the today's Dravida race.

I am very interested ..
